Congratulations Vince Young College Football HOF

College Football HOF

I wanted to take a minute and appreciate one of my favorite football players of all time Vince Young, who was inducted into the college football hall of fame this week.

A selfless leader, mentor, generational talent, and the ultimate motivator VY is truly deserving of the honor.

I am not ashamed to admit I was always a fan.

As I sat in Norman, Oklahoma on an official visit, we were having pre-game meal watching the enemy on TV: The Longhorns. I watched VY run for a 20 yd first down against Kansas I started to think to myself, “I want to be on his team.” There was something crazy about his awareness and ability to make defenders miss. I weighed my college options and what I thought was best for me. Within weeks I de-commit from the Sooners and decided I wanted to play for this type of QB with The Longhorns (best decision I ever made).

Coming off of the 2004 Rose bowl win against Michigan, the world was excited to see what the QB could do in 2005. By the time I signed with the longhorns in 2005, the championship caliber team had already been built. You could feel the team had formed a confidence Coach Brown developed terms like “Keep aim” and “don’t eat the cheese” to keep us focused on the big game. Biggie Smalls song “I’m going going back back to Cali Cali” would blast on the practice field. I was blown away that these men had their eyes set towards the second appearance in the rose bowl, this time for the National championship.

VY and RM

Our class composed of players like Colt McCoy, Aaron Lewis, and Jamaal Charles quickly realized we needed we had to earn the respect of these men through hard work and sacrifice because these men already had their sights on greatness. What we began to realize was VY was the catalyst to the program. The infectious Qb had a way of corralling the guys; his presence, confidence, and swagger created the heartbeat. We had extra workouts together, hung out together, we looked out for each other, and whether freshmen, walk-on, or the starting player on the team VY made you feel the same. This mentality resonated through out the entire team which was full of some of the best talent in the world.

In my 13 years of what I consider elite competition I have never been a part of a team so prepared for a game as the 2005 team lead by VY. When we stepped on the field there was no doubt that we would win even against USC.

VY put his teammates first and by doing so, he elevated us around him! We played every snap out of a special place in our hearts where we truly cared about each other. We were lucky to have number 10 leading us at QB.

I am happy he will go down as one of the best ever! Congratulations to my brother! Hook Em’!
